Summary:

Logan Watson surrendered only one hit over five innings as his Brandywine Little League all-star team blanked Millsboro, 3-0, in the Delaware state championship game in Newark.

With the win, Brandywine earned its seventh state championship in the major baseball division, and its first since 1996. Brandywine advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Region tournament in Bristol, Connecticut.

Watson struggled with wildness early in the game, allowing four walks and hitting a batter in the game's first two innings. But Millsboro stranded five baserunners while failing to capitalize on the early opportunities, and Watson walked just one more batter before reaching his pitch count limit. Reliever Jimmy Lamiet retired the side in order in the sixth to preserve the win.

Millsboro kept Brandywine's offense in check early, but the Wilmington-based team opened the scoring on Kevin Williams' pinch-hit home run to lead off the fourth inning. Later in the inning, Joseph Singley doubled to left center field before scoring on Watson's single.

Brandywine added its final run in the fifth, when Jason Bilas doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.

"This is a good group," said Brandywine manager Dick Moore. "It's a different hero every night, and that's good (in) that we don't just have to rely on one guy or a couple of guys.

"We've been trying to take things one game at time," added the Brandywine manager. "I know that sounds like a cliche, but I haven't been asking for any information about Bristol."

Brandywine opened the tournament by edging three-time defending champion M-O-T Little League, 8-7 in eight innings. Millsboro then avenged an earlier loss and earned a championship game rematch with an 8-4 victory.

M-O-T had rallied past Millsboro on the tournament's opening night, scoring ten runs in the fourth inning to seal a 15-4 victory.
