The Roseland North-Lawrenceville matchup was suspended after eight innings due to darkness. When it resumed, and Lawrenceville replaced starting pitcher Mark Moore in the tenth inning, Roseland North scored seven times on six hits to claim the victory. Roseland North had taken an early 2-0 lead on pitcher Terry Blabas' homer in the fourth, but Lawrenceville tied it with two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the other semifinal game, Mundelein -- which had not allowed any runs in its six district and sectional tournament victories, surrendered two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Kankakee Lions came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory.

In the title game, Bob Stratta allowed only three hits and struck out 13 as Roseland North blanked Kankakee. Roseland North held a 1-0 lead until the sixth, when Rick O'Leary doubled home Stratta and Blabas with insurance runs. He then scored on an infield out.

Roseland North didn't have to travel far to win the North Region Tournament at Harvey -- Harvey's Jim Turnball Stadium is less than five miles from the Roseland neighborhood -- and eventually finished second in the World Series, dropping a 4-1 title game to West Tokyo LL (Japan), which became the first ever Far East team to capture a World Series crown.
