Aroma Park, which was chartered in 1973 as a four team league (and remains that size today), won its first ever District 18, Section 2, and State Tournament titles. Fireballer Ronnie Jones willed the Lions to their State Tournament crown with a 15 strikeout, three hit complete game win over Libertyville (which he held hitless after the second inning) and a 14-strikeout, two hit complete game in the state title game.
In the title game, Jones struck out the first eight hitters he faced (on just 34 pitches) before the threat of lightning force the game to be suspended until the next day. He then completed the shutout (albeit in slightly less overpowering fashion) to give AP the crown. Jones also drove in Aroma Park's first run, and later tripled and scored the second run. With a population of only 690, Aroma Park became the smallest hamlet ever to win the Illinois State Tournament.
