Summary:

Baxter Springs rallied from a 5-0 defecit in the series' deciding game to capture its second consecutive state title. Hoisington's ace pitcher, Jimmy Beck, shut out Baxter Springs on two hits in the series opener, while his teammates pushed across a pair of runs on two errors and a passed ball.

In the second game, Baxter held a 4-3 lead after three innings, when cleanup hitter Tim Mehaffy (four hits for the game) clubbed a double that sparked a three run rally. Baxter added three more in the fifth, then iced the win with a six-run, sixth inning slugfest.

In the series' deciding game, Hoisington staked Beck to an early 5-0 lead, but Baxter pitcher Rusty Spence shut down the Hoisington attack the rest of the way, and his teammates chipped away at the deficit. Baxter plated two in the third on hits by Ricky Arnell, Scott Madden, and Philip Cook, and tied the game in the fifth when Mehaffy's double was follows by singles from Madden, Cook, and Steve Allen. Baxter broke the 5-5 tie in the top of the sixth on an error, Madden's double, a walk, a fielder's choice, and a Mehaffey base hit.
