Summary:

Baxter Springs rode the solid pitching of Bryce Cullers and Eric Lake to a two-game sweep of Grant County at the 2001 Kansas State Little League tournament. Baxter defeated Grant County 11-0 in the first game, then returned to the field in Ulysses that evening to rally for a 6-3 win in the second game.

The first game in the title series had been suspended the night before due to a rainstorm in Western Kansas.

The sweep earned Baxter its first state title in three years, and its 13th state crown since 1984. Baxter Springs is the winningest Kansas Little League program of all time, with 18 state titles overall.

Cullers was the starter in game one, while Lake took the mound for Baxter in game two. Neither pitcher walked a batter. In the second game, Baxter Springs jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Brett Davis doubled, and Zach Wilson and Anthony Roberts followed with base hits. Justin Kemp drove in Wilson to extend the lead in the third, but Tim Sosa's two-run homer helped Grant County tie the game in the bottom of the third. Baxter then added three runs in the top of the fifth, and held on for the win.
