Summary:

Cherokee Community Little League rebounded from an earlier loss with a sweep of Frontenac to claim the Kansas state championship in Baxter Springs.

Cherokee had fallen by a 10-9 score to Frontenac earlier in the tournament, then won its final three games to earn the league's fourth major baseball division state championship in five years, and its sixth since 1972.

The Kansas champions edged Galena by a 9-8 score, then defeated Frontenac by 9-8 and 16-10 margins to claim the championship.

Cherokee had earlier won the South Area tournament, then topped Girard Little League, 8-7, in their state tournament opener.

Frontenac, which opened the state tournament with a 20-6 victory over Galena, reached the state championship game for the first time in the league's history.

By winning the state championship, Cherokee advanced to the Midwest Region tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harney Little League from Rapid City, South Dakota, won that tournament and advanced to the Little League World Series.
