Summary:

Pittsfield South rallied from a 6-0 defecit to best host Danvers National in the rain-plagued 1976 State Tournament. In the tournament's opening game (held on August 6), Pittsfield used the masterful pitching of Rick Rabideau (14 strikeouts, three hits allowed) and a rally in the bottom of the sixth inning that broke a 2-2 tie to beat Randolph South.

The Danvers National-Medford North nightcap was suspended due to rain after two scoreless innings. Five consecutive days of rainouts forced tournament officials to schedule both the remaining semifinal and the championship games on the same day. Finally, on August 12, Danvers National beat Medford North, then jumped to a 6-0 lead in the title game. Ed Hutchinson had an RBI single and scored a run in the four-run first, and contributed a 2-run single in the second. Pittsfield South roared back with three in the third. Two walks and an error loaded the bases before Al Bradley drilled a three-run single. In the fifth, Pittsfield scored four times on one hit and three Danvers errors. Catcher Mark Filiault's two-run single to right tied the game at 6-6, and Chris Tierney scored the lead run on Jim Casino's groundout. Pitcher Tim Alibozek picked up the win despite allowing 10 hits.
