Summary:

Pittsfield North's Matt Mickle threw a two-hitter and slapped a two-run single that ignited the game-winning rally as Pittsfield North won its first ever state title. In the title game, Taunton West took a 2-1 lead in the second on a Pittsfield error and Eric Figuerado's RBI bunt single, but Pittsfield rallied back with four in the fifth. Singles by Andy Lalor, Mike Wiotkoski, and Keith Poopor loaded the bases with no outs. Mickle then chopped a single up the middle to score two and give Pittsfield North the lead for good. Pinch hitter Keith Ferris iced the game with a two-run double to complete the rally. Mickle fanned eleven in the title game, including the last nine batters he faced. In their semifinal rout of Wellington-Glenwood, Pittsfield North's John Noonan, a 6' tall twelve-year-old, contributed a three-run homer and an RBI double at the plate, and survived ten walks on the mound to pace the Pittsfield victory.
