Summary:

Cheyenne Little League scored a near-record 16 times in the deciding game of the Nevada state tournament. They needed every one of their runs.

Cheyenne edged Washoe Little League, 16-15, in the highest-scoring championship game in the 65-year history of the Nevada state tournament. The victory avenged a 6-2 defeat suffered at the hands of Washoe the previous day, and gave Cheyenne its first-ever state championship in the major baseball division. With the win, Cheyenne advanced to the West Region tournament in San Bernardino, California.

Cheyenne won two of its three meetings with Washoe in the state tournament, which was held at Ernie Hall Field in Elko. Cheyenne defeated the District 1 champions, 7-5, in the tournament's opening game, and Washoe battled back to earn a rematch in the championship series.

Cheyenne followed its opening game win with an 11-6 victory over Las Vegas-area neighbors Henderson Little League. The win was Cheyenne's sixth in a row since the start of international tournament play, and vaulted the North Las Vegas-based league into the championship game.

Washoe followed its opening round defeat with a mercy rule-shortened, 12-2 victory over Ruby Mountain Little League, then defeated Henderson by a 12-1 score. The victories advanced Washoe into the state championship game for the fifth time in ten years.

Cheyenne, which had placed third in the 2011 major baseball division state tournament, scored double-digit runs in all five of its district tournament victories, and in two of its state tournament wins. Cheyenne's 16-run outburst in the state championship game marked the third-highest run total by the winning team in Nevada state championship game history. Paseo Verde Little League scored 18 runs en route to the 2008 state championship, and Reno Continental Little League scored 17 in a 17-4 victory over Las Vegas Central Little League in the 1975 state championship game.

Cheyenne split its four pool games at the West Region tournament, including a 16-7 victory over Southern California champion Orange Little League that knocked the local team out of the tournament. Cheyenne fell, 10-4, in a semifinal round matchup against eventual U.S. runner-up Petaluma National (NorCal) Little League.
