Championship Game:
Pitman 8, River Edge 1 (TITLE)
Pitman rode three home runs and the one-hit pitching of Ted Williams to a championship game victory over River Edge and an eventual appearance in the Little League World Series semifinals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
River Edge took an early 1-0 lead, but Pitman rallied for two in the second when the River Edge first baseman threw wildly to the plate on Mike Lazalere's bases-loaded squib between first and the mound. Dave Chew belted a two-run homer in the third, and Fred Cuddy slammed a three-run homer in the fourth and a solo shot in the sixth. Williams allowed only one baserunner to reach second base, and retired the side in order in each of the last three innings.
River Edge advanced to the championship game when Don Levinsohn no-hit Lawrence Township. Bob Harmande's second inning home run provided all the scoring in the game.
