Al Minetto and Kurt Blankenburg fired consecutive two-hitters to lead Tenafly past Haddonfield and West New York American. Minetto struck out seven against Haddonfield in his semifinal win, while Blankenburg fanned twelve in the title game.
In the title game, Tenafly set the tone early by tallying two unearned runs in the first inning. Tod McDougald (the son of former Yankee star Gil McDougald) lined a single off the shoulder of West New York pitcher Kurt Dzibela and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Minetto then singled, and consecutive miscues by the leftfielder, second baseman, and third baseman allowed both the runner and the batter to score. Tenafly capitalized on a pair of errors to plate two more in the third, and Blankenburg shut down a West New York team that had hit 21 home runs (including four in one inning) in its seven prior games.
In the semifinals, West New York slammed three homers, including two by first baseman Billy Piper, to overpower South River 10-3. Tenafly used Minetto's pitching and Bob Cataraso's early homer to best Haddonfield by a 6-2 score.
