West New York American raced to an 11-0 lead before Franklin Township got its first hit in the 1967 New Jersey title game. Catcher Ken Wilson sparked the West New York offense with a two-run double in the first and a homer that capped a six-run second inning outburst. Pitcher Bruce Sabatini won his fourth game in tournament play, pitching a complete game and allowing only two hits.
In the semifinals, Bergenfield American and West New York American were deadlocked 2-2 in the sixth inning when Wilson, having been given new life when the Bergenfield thirdbaseman dropped his foul popup, slammed a double into right-center field to score Cisco Gonzales with the go-ahead run. West New York had plated unearned runs in the first and fourth innings.
West New York American -- which won the state title for the second year in a row and for the third time in eight years -- narrowly missed a second consecutive trip to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania when it lost the Eastern Region championship game 1-0 to the Newtown-Edgemont Little League (Newtown Square, Pennsylvania).
