Summary:

Six of the seven state tournament games were decided by one run, and Millburn-Short Hills rebounded from an opening round loss to capture its second state title in three years.

Millburn lost its opener when South Vineland pitcher Jose Sanchez surrendered just two hits and, after allowing a Millburn run in the third, retired the last ten batters he faced. Millburn responsed with four straight wins, including the rematch against South Vineland (the only game in the tournament not decided by one run) and a pair of wins over Hamilton Township Recreation.

The opening-round game between HTRBA and North Hunterdon was one of the most surreal in New Jersey state tournament history. HTRBA blew an 8-1 first-inning lead, but rallied from a pair of deficits to win it. The deciding runs scored in the fifth when, after a walk, three straight HTRBA hitters reached safely on bunts. Scott Brettell's bunt put two runners on with nobody out. Charlie Iancolo reached safely on his bunt, but Scott Kuhen was thrown out trying to score. Nick Adams bunted safely and plated a run -- and a second run scored on a throwing error. The game saw 24 hits, ten errors (five by each team), 20 runners left on base, and five lead changes.
