Summary:
Leo Hart's two-run double in the fifth inning snapped a 1-1 title game tie and propelled Connellsville to its second consecutive state title. Connellsville had taken a 1-0 lead when catcher Mike Banko singled and eventually scored on Dennis Washington's single, and Northeast tied it on Lee Paoli's double and losing pitcher Tom Pippit's single. Connellsville relief pitcher Bob Galasso escaped a bases-loaded threat in the fifth to preserve the victory.
In the semifinals, Connellsville scored twice with two outs in the fifth inning to rally for a 4-3 victory over Shippensburg. George Everly singled and later scored when Hart reached on an error. Hart then scored on Galasso's single. In the other semifinal, outfielder Joe Charantona's second inning homer -- the only hit allowed by Hopewell Township pitcher Bob Domin -- provided the game's only scoring. Winning pitcher Leo Pullino scattered six hits in the shutout win.
