Milton pitchers Greg Stover and Mike McLaughlin surrendered only one hit between them as Milton rode strong all-around play to its first ever state title.
In the championship game, McLaughlin allowed one hit (a second-inning single by Drew Shire), though he pitched out of trouble throughout the game. After retiring the side in order in the first inning, McLaughlin allowed Council Rock baserunners in each subsequent inning, but made big pitches when he needed to. Council Rock took a 1-0 lead in the second, but McLaughlin escaped further damage by registering two bases-loaded strikeouts. Milton then rallied to take the lead on Jason Boyer's two-run triple. After McLaughlin again snuffed a Council Rock rally in the bottom of the third (fanning two hitters to strand runners at second and third), Milton extended the lead on RBI sacrifice flies by McLaughlin and Eddie Robenolt.
In the semifinals, Milton's Stover fired a rain-delayed no-hitter, homered, and drove in three runs to lead his team past Ingomar. Stover struck out 10, and Milton pounded out 10 hits in the win. Council Rock also advanced, defeating Newberry 8-2. Pitcher Eric Futchko surrendered only four hits, and both Futchko and Shire delivered two-run singles.
