Summary:

Aston-Middletown won its third consecutive District 19 title, then reached new heights with a 6-3 victory over Ingomar in the state championship game.

Aston-Middletown's Randy Smith allowed only one run in four innings of work for the winners, while also scoring a run in his team's third-inning rally. Aston-Middletown built its early lead on Joe Gormley's's RBI groundout in the second, Steve Hoops' sacrifice fly in the third, and Gormley's ensuing RBI single.

After Ingomar pitcher Kevin McCarthy homered to cut the Aston-Middletown lead to 3-1, the Philadelphia area team put the game out of reach in the fourth. Brett Vankoski delivered a sacrifice fly, and Glenn Davis followed with a two-run double to stretch the lead to 6-1. Glenn Davis came on in relief and allowed a two-run homer in the sixth, but Ingomar could not overcome the early deficit.

In the semifinals, brothers Ben and Glenn Davis keyed Aston-Middletown's rout of Tamaqua. Eleven-year-old Ben hurled a three-hit, six strikeout complete game, and twelve-year-old Glenn homered twice and drove in five runs. Smith added a pair of doubles and an RBI walk.

Both Ben and Glenn Davis were later selected in the first round of Major League Baseball's amatuer draft. Ben was selected second overall by the San Diego Padres in 1995, and reached the major leagues as a catcher in 1998. Glenn was the Dodgers' first round selection in 1997.
