Jason Powell pitched a no-hitter in Spring's opening round win over Deer Park, then returned to toss a four-hitter in the title game rout of Austin Balcones. Three Balcones errors and four passed balls contributed to an eight run Spring outburst in the first inning, and solo home runs by Michael Marriott in the second and Todd Abbott in the third helped stretch the lead to 12-0. Spring played long ball throughout the tournament: in the opening round no-hit victory over Deer Park, Powell belted a pair of home runs, while both Abbott and Duke Chance did so in the 12-4 rout of the Fort Worth Westside Lions in the semifinals. Spring later won the Southern Region Tournament and advanced to the World Series, where it lost the U.S. title game 5-4 to the Pearl City LL (Hawaii) and eventually placed third.
