|After competing against leagues from neighboring states and provinces in the early years of the international tournament, Vermont holds its first state championship tournament. The state is organized into a single district, and area champions from Northern Vermont and Southern Vermont meet in a one-game playoff to determine the state's representative in the New England Divisional tournament. While four area champions advanced to the state tournament in a handful of years (1962-1964 and 1975), the Vermont state tournament continued to use this format through the 1976 international tournament.
|The Vermont state champion advances directly to the Eastern Region tournament for the first time. The state champion would continue to advance directly to regional competition in every year except 1975 and 1976.
|Vermont expands the state tournament to include four area champions instead of two.
|The state tournament uses a double-elimination format for the first time. Vermont continues to be administered as a single district, but the longstanding Little League Baseball rule requiring area tournament losses to carry over to the state tournament is waived in most years.
|Vermont expands the state tournament to include five area champions.
|District 2 (Southern Vermont) is formed, and the state tournament is a best 2-of-3 series between the state's two district champions. Controversy ensues in the District 1 tournament, where area losses now carry over to the district tournament. Barre's Granite City Little League had been advised otherwise by district officials prior to the tournament, and files suit after being eliminated by their first loss in the district finals. They win the court case before losing for a third time, but not before the Vermont state tournament is delayed by a week.
|District 3 (Northwestern Vermont) and District 4 (Northeastern Vermont) are split from District 1 (Burlington area). The state tournament continues to use a double-elimination format.
|Vermont is assigned to the New England Region as Little League Baseball expands the Little League World Series from eight to sixteen participants.
