1950	Little League Baseball commissioner Carl Stotz stops in Murray on January 8 as part of an offseason barnstorming tour aimed at sparking interest in the rapidly expanding youth baseball organization. Murray High School athletic coach Preston Holland is among roughly 50 attendees from Murray as well as Western Tennessee, and city officials in Murray go on to organize the Bluegrass State's first chartered league. Murray's four-team circuit begins play on June 26, 1950, with a pair of exhibition games.
1951	Murray becomes the first Kentucky team to enter the international tournament when it joins seven leagues from Western Tennessee in a district tournament held in Paris, Tennessee. Murray falls, 4-1, to Milan Little League (Tennessee) in the state's first-ever tournament game and is eliminated in the tournament's earliest stage. Also in 1951, the city of Lexington's Department of Playgrounds and Recreation organizes the precursor to that city's Little League program. The league is modeled after Williamsport's rules, but is not yet formally chartered with Little League, as the league is too large (six teams rather than the standard four team lineup) and the city's existing field, a softball diamond at Woodland Park, cannot yet be altered to meet Little League standards (installing an outfield fence would impact softball league play, and the diamond's pitching rubber is 46 feet from home plate rather than the 44 feet that was standard for Little League Baseball at the time.)
1952	Lexington formally affiliates with Little League Baseball after chartering three leagues -- Lexington Eastern, Lexington Northern, and Lexington Southern Little Leagues. Lexington Eastern Little League remains Kentucky's oldest continually chartered league. The three leagues join Murray and four additional new Kentucky charters (Harlan, Henderson, Hopkinsville, and Owensboro) in the inaugural Kentucky state tournament. Owensboro and Harlan Little Leagues win area tournaments, then Owensboro defeats Harlan, 6-0, at Woodland Park in Lexington to become Kentucky's first state champion.
1953	With the number of charters in Kentucky continuing to grow, the state's leagues are organized into four districts for tournament competiton. The four district winners meet in a state tournament that determines Kentucky's representative in the Region 5 tournament. Kentucky will continue to be grouped into four or five districts throughout the mid-1950s, though the groupings evolve annually as new charters are granted throughout the state.
1957	Little League Baseball reorganizes its tournament structure and creates four new U.S. regions. Kentucky is assigned to the Southern Region, and its champion advances to the Division 4 tournament, where they face champions from neighboring states for the right to advance to the region tournament.
1958	Kentucky officials reorganize the state's district structure, establishing a new four-district arrangement that is the precursor to the district structure currently used today.
1960	District 5 is formed in the Western part of the state as a split from District 2, and District 6 (Eastern Kentucky) is formed as a split from District 3.
1971	Kentucky's state champion begins advancing directly to the Southern Region tournament rather than first competing in a divisional tournament. With the exception of 1975, Kentucky's champion has continued to advance directly to regional tournament competition in every year since this time. Also in 1971, Gardenside Little League from Lexington becomes the first Kentucky team to reach the Little League World Series after defeating Shaw Air Force Base Little League (Sumter County, South Carolina), 2-0, in the Southern Region championship game.
1981	Kentucky officials switch the state tournament from a single-elimination format to double-elimination.
1981	District 7 (Southeastern Kentucky) is formed as a split from District 6.
1994	The last remaining leagues in District 1 (Western Kentucky) do not renew their charter, and District 1 is dissolved.
1999	District 1 (Western Kentucky) is re-formed as a split from District 5.
2000	Kentucky officials implement a new pool competition format for the state tournament. The state's seven district champions and a second qualifier from the host district are divided into two pools before elimination games determine the state champion. Also in 2000, Kentucky is reassigned from the Southern Region to the Central Region.
2001	Kentucky is assigned to the Great Lakes Region as Little League Baseball expands the Little League World Series from eight to sixteen teams.
2002	Valley Sports American Little League from Louisville defeats Sendai Higashi Little League (Japan), 1-0, to become the first Kentucky league to win the Little League World Series.
