Summary:
One year after just missing the state tournament -- Ridgewood National lost 5-1 to Bergenfield National in the 1978 Section 1 finals -- Chris and Terry Cardew led the District 3 champs to state, regional, and Little League World Series berths. It was the first state title by a Bergen County team since Lodi American took the crown in 1973.
Ridgewood National returned seven players from its 1978 tournament team.
