Summary:

Potter McKean Little League clubbed eight home runs and averaged over 10 runs per game in its march to the 1951 Pennsylvania state championship. In the quarterfinals, Potter McKean batters homered three times to account for eight runs in a 9-2 win over Williamsport's Original Little League. Bert Tucker hit a first inning grand slam, and Joe Marzo (solo shot) and Fred Howell (three-run homer) added round-trippers in the fourth.

In the semifinals, Potter McKean scored its first nine runs on only three hits -- Trey Shields' grand slam in the second, Tucker's solo homer in the third, and Marzo's two-run blow in the fourth. Tucker's blast snapped a 6-6 tie and gave Potter McKean a lead it would never relinquish. In the other semifinal, Newville routed Lewistown 19-0. Newville pitchers Harry Lay and Ed Griffie combined on a two-hitter, while Newville connected for 15 hits and capitalized on nine Newville errors.

The tables were turned on Newville in the title game, however. Potter McKean raced to a 12-0 lead before Newville was able to generate three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth. Marzo again homered for Potter McKean, delivering a two-run blow in the first inning, while Howell added a three-run homer in the second.
