Summary:

Walpole rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to stun Lynn Wyoma in its semifinal victory, but Worcester Ty Cobb turned the tables in the title game by tying the game in the sixth and winning it in the seventh. After Walpole took a 1-0 lead in the fifth, Ty Cobb catcher Geoff Sylvester homered in the top of the sixth to force extra innings. In the seventh, an error and a walk put Ty Cobb runners on first and second with two outs, when Edgar Baez's grounder rolled through the legs of the Walpole second baseman. Jeff Smyth came around to score the winning run. Rich Johnson scattered three hits for the winners, while Greg Cabana was masterful in defeat. Ty Cobb became the first Worcester league to win the Massachusetts state title since the Gabby Hartnett league won the inaugural Massachusetts State Tournament in 1957.
